Five-spice is a spice blend originating from China. It includes: Sichuan pepper, star anise, cinnamon, clove and fennel.
For 6 servings
- 1 onion, chopped
- 15 ml vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, seeded and minced
- 16 cherry tomatoes, quartered
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 liter beef broth
- 45 ml soy sauce
- 30 ml nuoc-mâm fish sauce
- 5 ml five-spice
- 5 ml sugar
- 2 portions instant noodles
- 1 sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- 125 ml fresh coriander
- In a large saucepan, sauté the onion in the oil for 2 to 3 minutes; add pepper, tomatoes and garlic.
- Continue cooking 4 to 5 minutes; pour in the beef broth and add the soy sauce, nuoc-mâm sauce, five-spice and sugar.
- Simmer for 15 minutes over low heat; add instant noodles and steak slices.
- Remove from fire ; leave to rest for 5 minutes and serve the soup garnished with a few coriander leaves.
