- 4 pounds beef or pork ribs
- ½ cup chopped onion
- ½ cup molasses
- ½ cup ketchup
- 2 teaspoons finely shredded orange peel
- One-third cup orange juice
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon steak sauce
- ½ teaspoon prepared mustard
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- ¼ teaspoon hot pepper sauce
- Pinch of ground cloves
- ¼ cup bourbon
- In a large Dutch oven or saucepan combine the ribs with enough water to cover and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 40 to 55 minutes, until the ribs are tender.
- Remove from the heat and drain thoroughly.
- In a medium saucepan combine the ingredients of the sauce, bring to a boil and gently simmer uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Grill the ribs over slow coal for about 45 minutes, turning every 15 minutes and basting with the sauce.
- Extra sauce can be served with the meat.
