- ¾ cup shortening
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon cloves
- ½ teaspoon ginger
- ½ teaspoon salt
- In a large bowl cream the shortening, sugar, and brown sugar, add the molasses and egg, and beat well.
- In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingrédients.
- Add the dry mixture to the molasses mixture, blending well and chill the dough for 1 hour.
- Shape the dough into small balls and roll in sugar.
- Place on a cookie sheet and bake in a 375F (190C) oven for 9 minutes.
