Ginger snaps



Makes about 4 dozens
  • ¾ cup shortening
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ginger
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  1. In a large bowl cream the shortening, sugar, and brown sugar, add the molasses and egg, and beat well.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingrédients.
  3. Add the dry mixture to the molasses mixture, blending well and chill the dough for 1 hour.
  4. Shape the dough into small balls and roll in sugar.
  5. Place on a cookie sheet and bake in a 375F (190C) oven for 9 minutes.
