French toast is also called "pain perdu" since the preparation was originally intended to recover the stale bread... rather than to lose it.
4 skewers
- 15 ml butter
- 24 country bread cubes 3 cm (1½ in.)
- 24 fresh raspberries
- 24 large fresh blueberries (blueberries)
For the French toast dough
- 80 ml milk
- 30 ml brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 ml vanilla
- 1 ml cinnamon
- In a large bowl, whisk together all the ingredients for the French toast dough.
- In a large nonstick skillet, melt the butter; dip the bread cubes in the French toast dough and stir to coat them well.
- Slightly drain bread cubes to remove excess liquid and place in skillet; Sear the cubes for 1 to 2 minutes on each side to brown all sides.
- Assemble the skewers by alternating the cubes of French toast, the raspberries and the blueberries; warm the skewers for a few minutes in the oven before serving them generously drizzled with maple syrup.
BON APPÉTIT
