Gingersnaps (Holiday Menus for Family)

 


About 4 dozens cookies

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ¾ cup shortening
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2¼ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Granulated sugar
  1. Mix brown sugar, shortening, molasses and egg in a large bowl ; stir in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt, cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
  2. Heat oven to 375F.
  3. Grease cookie sheet lightly.
  4. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls ; dip top into granulated sugar.
  5. Place balls, sugared sides up, about 3 inches apart on cookie sheet ; bake 10 to 12 minutes or just until set.
  6. Remove from cookie sheet ; cool on a wire rack.
