Grilled pears with Gorgonzola and drizzled honey (Barbecue and Grilling)

Ripe, fresh pears and pungent blue cheese make a delicious combination. Grilled, they're spectacular. Serve as a salad over dressed greens, as part of a cheese course or as a dessert.

Serves 4

  • 4 ripe but somewhat firm Bartlett or Bosc pears (unpeeled), halved lengthwise
  • Melted unsalted butter
  • ½ cup Gorgonzola or other creamy blue cheese
  • Liquid honey
  • Toasted chopped hazelnuts
  1. Prepare a hot fire in your grill.
  2. Using a melon baller, core an scoop out a small cavity in each pear half ; brush both sides of each pear half with melted butter.
  3. Place pears cut side down over the hot fire ; grill for about 2 minutes, or until fruit is blistered.
  4. Move to the indirect fire of the grill and place skin side down ; mound 1 tablespoon cheese in the cavity of each pear ; close the lid and grill for about 8 minutes, or until pears are blistered and cheese is melted.
  5. Serve drizzled with honey and garnished with hazelnuts.
BON APPÉTIT
