Patties are kind of donuts filled with meat. The Caribbeans or Jamaicans live a lot outside, this dish is part of the street cuisine.
For 4 large patties
- 700 g ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 long red chilli, finely chopped
- 5 ml paprika
- Oil
- 1 bunch of thyme
- 50 g bread
- 1.5 kg puff pastry
- All-purpose flour
- 1 egg yolk
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- In a frying pan, heat the oil; brown the ground beef with the onion, chilli and paprika for a few minutes.
- Add the thyme, crumble the bread, season with salt and pepper; then pour 400 ml of water and simmer for about 30 minutes.
- On a floured work surface, roll out the puff pastry; cut discs about 16 cm in diameter.
- Place stuffing in the center and fold the dough in half to form a half-moon turnover.
- Brush the egg yolk turnovers with a brush.
- Preheat the oven to 350F (175C).
- Place the turnovers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake the patties in the oven for about 30 minutes.
- Enjoy hot or cold.
